Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline including angels, demons, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the city.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the main group to begin their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the group reach locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can expect learning which players will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
